The PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controller operates with loss-in-weight feeders to accurately control the rate of delivery of product from a weigh hopper.

Precision electronics combined with a colour touchscreen HMI and advanced storage and communication options provide a state of the art solution for gravimetric feeder applications.

Accurate Feed Rate Control

The PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controller interfaces directly to any loss-in-weight feeder with a weigh hopper mounted on load cells and fitted with a variable feed device, such as a variable speed screw or vibratory feeder.

Using high resolution electronics coupled with intelligent signal filtering the PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controller accurately measures the continuous loss-in-weight over time to calculate the material feed rate.

From this calculated feed rate the PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controller employs a sophisticated control algorithm to make adjustments to the feeder and maintain a pre-set target feed rate.

The PR1448 control algorithm is easily tuned to provide stable yet responsive feed rate control for both high and low feed rate applications. Storage of multiple sets of product configuration data allows rapid switching between products whilst retaining the optimum control characteristics.

To achieve accurate control immediately after start-up and during periods of volumetric operation, the PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controller stores a profile of feed rate against net hopper weight which it continually updates during gravimetric operation.

Automatic Weigh Hopper Refill Control

The PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controller will continue to maintain the pre-set target feed rate during periods where the weigh hopper is being refilled.

For fully automatic refill control the PR1448 will detect when the material in the weigh hopper has reached a pre-set level and initiate the refill process. Alternatively, where the weigh hopper is refilled manually volumteric control can be selected.

Process Control System Integration

The desired feed rate can be set locally using the PR1448 touchscreen or transmitted from a remote system via a 4-20mA analogue signal, serial or network communications.

Analogue, serial or network communications can also be used to feed back the live feed rate to the remote system.

This flexible connectivity allows multiple PR1448 smart Feed Rate Controllers to be easily integrated into process control systems with each one being individually controlled by the central PLC.
